While I agree in many ways, I do want to ask, is it something we can put back in the box? Because I don't think it is. The internet enables communication, knowledge sharing and potentially working together across borders. That being said, with the help of profit led incentives the internet has been destroying our governments and radicalizing mass numbers of people.

But WITHOUT it, how will we manage to constrain the massive amount of technology that is emerging beyond the comprehension of the masses. CRISPR, the rise of machines and next generation weapons, the internet is also our defense. It enables real time communication.

I'm saying this because the problem is WORSE than you said, because we can no longer live without the internet either. Which means we must seek an internet (whatever this means in the future) powered utopia with everything we have (even if we don't make it) that don't conflict with natural systems. Time is running out. We must learn to speak with one another in a new way.
