InPublic: Where Elastic Thinking Takes Root
Over the past few years a side project of mine, InPublic has quietly evolved, shaped by experimentation, reflection, and the ever-changing landscape of modern work. What began as an experiment in “working in public” has transformed into something more intentional — a space to practice Elastic Thinking, explore the potential of shared creativity, and embrace the tools of our time to create something profoundly collaborative.
The Genesis of InPublic
At its inception, InPublic was about the practice of working in public. It was a space where design, communication efficiency, and modern work practices could converge. We explored remote work, transparency, and the new tools that make collaboration across distances not just possible but powerful. It was a place to learn how openness could drive innovation and how shared visibility into progress might foster deeper trust among teams.
The early days were fueled by curiosity and necessity. Remote work had become the norm, and tools like Miro, Evernote, and Circle so offered capabilities that felt revolutionary. We asked: What if we could align these tools to not only meet the needs of distributed teams but to cultivate a sense of connected purpose? Could we design in public, not just to showcase work but to engage others in meaningful dialogue about what’s possible?
The Elastic Evolution
As the world and our worlds shifted, so did InPublic. What emerged was more than a collaborative workspace; it became a proving ground for Elastic Thinking — an living framework rooted in adaptability, exploration, and the synthesis of diverse perspectives. Elastic Thinking challenges us to see beyond the linear, to embrace complexity, and to design not just for outcomes but for possibilities.
InPublic is now a space where teams and individuals can practice these principles. It is where the tools of remote work meet the intentionality of shared exploration. It is where transparency becomes a catalyst for trust and where experimentation is not just encouraged but celebrated.
The Role of RenMind
InPublic sits at the heart of RenMind, the umbrella under which all of our experiments, frameworks, and projects reside. RenMind’s mission has always been to cultivate valuable possibilities and align them with real needs. InPublic amplifies this mission by serving as both a playground and a laboratory. It’s where Elastic Thinking is lived, iterated upon, and refined.
RenMind’s ethos of collaboration, sustainability, and intentional growth is embodied in InPublic. Here, we explore what it means to work together — not just efficiently but meaningfully. InPublic is how we bring RenMind’s principles to life, in real time, with real people.
What’s Next for InPublic in 2025
Looking ahead, InPublic is poised to release the next wave of tools, frameworks, and insights drawn from our past experiments. Here’s a glimpse of what’s coming:
- Elastic Thinking Unschool: Structured yet exploratory sessions where participants can immerse themselves in the principles of Elastic Thinking and practice applying them to their work and lives.
- Cards for Insight: In collaboration with John Kellden and his emergent team. A playful, reflective tool designed to foster curiosity and dialogue. Drawn from our exploration of boundary objects, this will allow teams and individuals to connect ideas in unexpected ways.
- Product Products: A new subscription offering to help product teams compare tools, share insights, and build more intentional stacks.
- Elastic Time: A reimagined approach to experiencing and aligning with time, grounded in natural rhythms and personal growth.
Through these offerings, we aim to deepen the practice of Elastic Thinking, create spaces for shared exploration, and offer tools that make the abstract tangible.
A Call to Join Us
InPublic is not just a platform or a set of tools; it’s a way of being. It’s an invitation to step into a space where uncertainty becomes an opportunity, where collaboration transcends transactional relationships, and where the boundaries of what’s possible are stretched.
As we move into 2025, we invite you to join us. Whether you’re curious about Elastic Thinking, looking to explore new work practices, or simply seeking a space to align your efforts with others, InPublic is here to grow with you.
Let’s practice Elastic Thinking together. Let’s create something extraordinary, InPublic.
